THE KINCORTH COURIER 1ST EDITION July 2011 Kincorth/Leggart Community Council Your community council was originally formed in 2001 after 20 volunteers signed the application to have a community council. It has had a varied success rate in that it was twice disbanded due to lack of support but each time it appears to have risen stronger than it was. The council has had input into several areas in Kincorth. 1. The resurfacing of the car parks at the shops in Gardiner Drive 2. Provision of dog bins in our area 3. Changes to the bus services 4. Comments on the provision of pedestrian crossings. 5. The provision of lights on Provost Watt Drive over the Christmas period. We get a grant from the City Council to cover the cost of our administration. However none of our members are paid for the efforts they put in on your behalf. We are all volunteers and there is still space for another four members. Unfortunately a small improvement grant that was also received from the City was withdrawn two years ago. It was this funding that allowed us to buy the fifteen light units that were put up on Provost Watt Drive. You may have noticed the lights were not there last Christmas. This was due to your community council not having enough funds to cover the cost of connecting and dismantling the units. We have tried to get some sponsorship from the local shops on Provost Watt Drive but without success. Playpark Improvements Your council is currently trying to raise funds to have the play park at Kincorth Circle refurbished in order that children may use the facilities in the park. Our office bearers have met with City Council officials and have had promises of some assistance from them. We are hoping to get some funding from local companies and would like to see some improvements made fairly soon. Your council has a responsibility to seek the opinions of the local residents on any matters concerning Kincorth and also to listen to any matters you would wish us to bring to the attention of the City Council or any other authority or person you would wish us to contact. However your council is non-political and so cannot discuss nor comment on anything political. We could best obtain your views and inform you of the discussions in the council if we could distribute a newsletter. There are approximately 3800 houses in our area so distribution would be a massive job. This could be done if we could adopt a system used in Cove. They have a volunteer in every street who delivers the ?Cove Chronicle? in their own street. Another volunteer receives the printed booklets and arranges delivery to those volunteering to deliver them in their own street. The Cove Chronicle pays for itself through advertising from local trades people, shops etc. and it has articles provided by the various groups operating in the area with information on what they do, where they meet etc. If there are any trades people interested in advertising please let us know. If your are interested in helping in any way to get a Kincorth Courier started and delivered around our area please get in touch with any of the office bearers listed at the bottom of this sheet. Please remember that our office bearers are all working and have limited time available so try to make you comment to them short and to the point. If you have a group of any kind running in our area please let us know who you are and where and when you meet. This would include youth groups, schools activities both primary and secondary and any adult groups meeting in schools, churches or the community centre.
